A Fun Day to Remember! All week long, I was watching the long range weather forecasts and it wasn’t looking too good….we were planning the annual OMHC Fun Day at our farm and when you don’t have an indoor arena, you really want the weather to co-operate. The weather gods must have been smiling on Port Perry that day as we had incredible weather to host the Fun Day on June 19 th. We had cloud cover most the afternoon and once the games were over, the sun came out to really heat things up, but that was OK, the horses were cooled down and either in their stalls or turned out in the fields and we were on the back deck under a canopy enjoying cool drinks and a bar-b-que dinner! Jane and Annika in the steady hand class We had volunteered to host the fun day a few months ago and we always enjoy doing it, besides; it gives us a great excuse to spend time working on the place, cutting grass, weed whacking etc. Nothing like a deadline to get jobs done! Ribbons were ordered, food was planned, tents were pitched, we were all ready to go and at around 12:45 pm, the trailers and cars started to roll in. Thank you to everyone who came with horses and thanks to our spectators for coming and spending the day with us. It truly was a fun day filled with laughter and good horsemanship. Lisa and Courtney after the sack race Laurel Gould brought 3 Morgans; Temptation’s Symphony, Lauralee Mountainman and Northline Regency Hawk. Christine Monteith brought Brogin Kiri & Sherri Wilson came with Lauralee Aurora (owned by Kris Graves) Jane Davy-Ward rode her half Morgan/Arab Annika across the 10 th line (she is my neighbour!) and a few our own resident riders took part in the day: Kyla Vendrig and MLF Merlin, Lisa Kavanagh and Cyan Star County Cork, Linda Ross/Nancy Kavanagh with Chestnut Hill Specialty, Jennifer Sills and Trillium Hot Chili Pepper. To the finish line in the Potato Race I think the best part of the day is the feeling of fun competition without a lot of strict rules, there more like guidelines! We strive to keep the games fun, fair and safe for everyone. Whether you win or lose, it doesn’t really matter; it’s about enjoying your horse and enjoying the company of other Morgan owners. A few of the riders came purely to bring their horse out for a learning experience, riding in a different location for some solid training time. Whatever your reason for coming, we are happy you came and participated! All was in good fun but until you have watched the Apple Bobbing class, you really don’t know what you have missed! It was great way to end the games. Edie and Mountie dropping their potato Thanks to Andrew Gilbank for being our photographer for the day. He stood in center ring and snapped away. Thank you to Ashley Reeson for being our gate person. Thank you to Danny Kavanagh & Derek Ross for working with David Kavanagh as ring crew, keeping track of results and chasing after dropped eggs. Laurel and Tempe after they bobbed for their apple Thanks to all for bringing some delicious food to accompany the sausages/hot dogs and especially to Jennifer Sills who made and decorated the most lovely cake; chocolate & raspberry layer cake decorated with a gorgeous Morgan head. It was a sweet treat! Plan is to do it all over again next year, stay tuned for the 2011 version.
